Every year, data reports reaffirm that in terms of social contributions, cross-border workers constitute a financial blessing for Luxembourg.

In 2018, they were responsible for €2,172 billion to Luxembourg social security contributions. In return, they received "only" €1,961 billion - leaving the Grand Duchy with a surplus of  €211 million.

In other words, and with regard to social security contributions, cross-border commuters pay in more than they cost.

According to Statec figures, this trend has been consistently in Luxembourg's favour over the last fifteen years, as seen in the below graph.
