According to Meteolux, Luxembourg’s public weather service, March 2025 has officially become the sunniest March on record at Luxembourg-Findel Airport, with 222.8 hours of sunshine. This surpasses the previous record of 218.8 hours set in 2022 and pushes March 1949, which saw 211.9 hours, into third place.
The exceptional sunshine was driven by a persistent high-pressure system stretching from the North Atlantic across Northern and Eastern Europe. Additionally, drier-than-usual air in the lower atmosphere contributed to clear skies and dry conditions, with only four days recording measurable rainfall. The total precipitation for the month reached just 12.4 mm.
Meteorological data from NOAA confirm that both sea-level pressure and relative humidity levels deviated significantly from the 1991–2020 climate norms, creating the ideal conditions for this record-breaking month.
