Selling clothes on the internet can be a quick way to sort out your wardrobe and make a bit of money at the same time. However, this convenience can prove costly if proper precautions are not taken, as was sadly demonstrated in a recent incident involving a Luxembourg resident, as reported by the police on Saturday.
The unfortunate chain of events began when the victim attempted to sell an item of clothing online. Subsequently, the victim received an email that purported to be from a parcel delivery service, requesting their bank details. They soon discovered that several large sums of money had been withdrawn by unknown individuals. In total, the victim had been robbed of more than €57,000. They filed a complaint with the police on Friday.
As a general rule, never disclose your bank details after a transaction, as any reputable service provider should not request this sensitive information at that stage. All financial transactions should be conducted securely and during the initial ordering process. Should any doubts arise, it is advised to exercise caution and abstain from sharing such data.
