In response to a recent parliamentary question from the Pirate Party, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Justice have provided detailed statistics on rape and date-rape drug cases over the past five years.
According to the data, at least 182 cases of rape were reported to the public prosecutor’s offices in Luxembourg City and Diekirch in 2024 alone. Over the past five years, the total number of reported rape cases reaches 816.

In their joint response, Ministers Elisabeth Margue, Yuriko Backes, and Léon Gloden acknowledged that many victims still hesitate to come forward, leading to a significant number of unreported cases. However, they highlighted ongoing efforts to “break taboos and increase the number of legal cases” through awareness-raising campaigns.
Regarding date-rape drugs, the ministers stated that no cases have been confirmed in which the use of such substances could be proven. They attributed this to various factors, including victims experiencing blackouts due to excessive alcohol consumption or reporting incidents too late for the substances to be detected. Over the past five years, 32 individuals filed complaints alleging that something had been added to their drinks.
