The Luxembourg police reported that three drivers had their licences revoked for drink-driving during separate incidents on Friday evening and early Saturday morning. One of the drivers attempted to flee from authorities.
The first incident occurred at around 6.10pm on the road from Oberpallen towards Ell. A driver veered slightly off the road, scraping a tree. The impact caused the right rear wheel of the car to detach, sending the vehicle into the oncoming traffic lane. The driver then overcorrected by steering sharply to the left, resulting in the car being thrown across the roadway and into another tree. The heavily damaged vehicle eventually came to a stop on the road.
A witness stopped to assist the driver and remained on the right lane’s edge. During this time, a second motorist, who was behind the witness, collided with the crashed vehicle, likely due to poor visibility.
Upon arrival, police determined that the driver of the first vehicle was under the influence of alcohol, leading to the immediate revocation of their driving licence. Neither the witness nor the second driver sustained injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Later that night, shortly after midnight, a police patrol encountered a car on Boulevard John F. Kennedy in Bascharage. The vehicle was stationary in the middle of the roadway with its hazard lights on, and the driver was initially missing. The driver reappeared shortly afterward, revealing they had just come from a bar. Officers noticed the smell of alcohol and conducted a breathalyser test, which confirmed the driver’s intoxication. Their licence was subsequently revoked.
In the early hours of Saturday, at around 2am, another drink-driving incident unfolded in Luxembourg City. A police patrol on Rue d’Anvers noticed a car driving into oncoming traffic. Upon spotting the officers, the driver reversed at high speed, with screeching tyres, and fled toward Rue Michel Rodange.
The police pursued the vehicle, which sped through a 30 km/h zone before being stopped on Rue Michel Rodange. The driver was found to be intoxicated and had their licence revoked.
