In 2022, the EU recorded average price increases of 10.4% across all sectors, but food rose even further. Member states have been impacted differently, with Hungary coming in as the the most affected country with a 49.6% increase in food prices over a year.

Over twelve months, from December 2021 to December 2022, pasta and semolina increased by 70.9%, with a 65.4% rise for bread and cereal, and 73.2% for dairy products such as milk, cheese and eggs.

In comparison, Luxembourg is the least affected country within the EU when it comes to inflated food prices, with an increase of 11.1% - some 38 points less than Hungary.

The Duchy’s neighbouring countries have experienced slightly higher food prices, increasing by 13.1% in France and 15.7% in Belgium. Germany, however, has seen food prices soar by 20.5%.
