Minister of Finance Gilles Roth has confirmed that Luxembourg maintains virtually no gold reserves, with one notable exception.

In response to a parliamentary question from Democratic Party (DP) MP André Bauler, Roth revealed that the state holds just 1,800 Louis d’Or coins – originally from the State Intelligence Service (SRE) – currently stored at the Luxembourg Central Bank (BCL). These coins carry an estimated value of €990,000.

The Finance Minister noted that Luxembourg transferred its gold reserves entirely to the BCL in 1998, and no changes have occurred since – a status confirmed through parliamentary questions in 2013, 2015, and 2020.

Bauler’s enquiry sought details on the quantity and current value of national gold holdings, their storage locations, and any changes since 2020.
