MP Fernand Kartheiser from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) recently enquired about Luxembourg’s financial contributions made to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion.
According to Minister of Finance Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg has thus far committed close to €100 million, out of which more than €73 million were for military purposes.
The Grand Duchy has further contributed aids through international initiatives and indirectly through its contributions to the EU budget. Money has also been directly paid to the European Peace Facility (EPF).
Since the beginning of the war, the Union has committed €12 billion for humanitarian support and contributions to the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Minister Backes concluded her response to the enquiry by highlighting that the financial support given to Ukraine will allow the country to keep essential infrastructure and services operating.
