Luxembourg attracts mainly highly qualified people from abroad to work in the country. Eight out of ten people who come to Luxembourg for a job hold a university degree, and a third of them work in the financial sector, according to the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) Luxtalent survey commissioned by the Ministry of the Economy.

The vast majority of the so-called talents Luxembourg attracts speak English, and around half also speak French.

The main reason for moving to Luxembourg is usually a job offer, though quality of life and personal contacts also feature among the motivations for relocating to the Grand Duchy. Two-thirds of people, however, cite housing as something that could push them to leave again. That is followed by being too far from family and the lure of better opportunities abroad.

In many cases, though, people end up staying longer than they had initially planned.
