Music has returned to the heart of the capital. The participatory project My Urban Piano Luxembourg was launched in front of Cercle Cité on Place d'Armes, in the presence of the College of the Mayor and Aldermen.
To open this new edition, two winners of the My Urban Piano 2025 competition, Katharina Fischer and Luna Hoogakker, performed pieces by Haydn, Moszkowski, Bach, and Yann Tiersen. The performance set the tone for a month dedicated to creativity and sharing.
Until 16 June 2026, 17 pianos will be installed in the streets, parks, neighbourhoods, and tourist spots of Luxembourg City. Each one, decorated by partners from the non-profit, artistic, or educational sectors, becomes a work of art in its own right, woven into the urban landscape.
Freely accessible, the instruments invite passers-by, amateur players, and experienced musicians alike to improvise micro-concerts and bring the city to life through music. It is a way of turning public space into an open stage, where music can appear unexpectedly on a square or along a path.
As every year, several concerts will punctuate the event, including Luca Sales on 20 May on Place d'Armes, Daniel Schweitzer on 3 June in Parc Edith Klein, and a closing concert on 28 June, again on Place d'Armes.
The events will give the public a chance to discover a range of local talent and enjoy open-air musical moments.
The City is also calling on video creators to take part. Until 16 June, anyone who posts a video on Facebook or YouTube showing a micro-concert or activity around one of the pianos, using the keywords #luxembourgcity and #myurbanpiano2026, can enter a competition with shopping vouchers worth €400, €200, and €100.
Two categories are open: "musical performance" and "original video around the piano". To validate their entry, participants simply need to send the video link to concours@vdl.lu, along with the contact details of the person who made it.
