The motion was killed by government shortly thereafter, resulting in the matter now being debated in court.

The motion has once again been heavily criticised, notably by the opposition. LSAP politician Tom Krieps was particularly worried about the ‘self-appointed’ moral authority of the ruling bloc to determine other people’s right to beg.

From a legal standpoint, opposition politicians have shared Justice Minister Sam Tanson’s concerns - a worry Mayor Lydie Polfer has taken into consideration.

She stressed that it was now up to the judges to determine whether the legal basis of the plans were adequate or not, hence the matter being taken to court in the first place.
