Over the next two weeks, Luxair planes will carry an estimated 100,000 passengers, a 10% increase compared to last year’s Easter holidays. Nevertheless, the rate is still below pre-pandemic levels.
Demand for Luxair’s classic holiday destinations, such as Palma, Porto, Malaga, Nice, and Faro, has been high. New Easter destinations include Izmir, Marrakesh, Pescara, and Agadir.
Daniel Colling of LuxairTours notes: “We currently have 63 destinations for Easter and will reach a total of 92 in summer.”
450 crew members, including 200 pilots, 21 Luxair planes and two leased ones will help ensure that people get to their destination of choice. Further Boeing planes will come into service during summer.
According to Luxair CEO Gilles Feith, the airline is looking to increase its fleet as well as destination offer: “We are currently investing in the future of Luxair. We are planning on investing into Senegal and looking to also get to Israel. We are also looking for more distant locations that we can reach with the new planes. Here we are thinking of Jordan and Oman, and perhaps new Greek destinations.”
For those preferring to travel by ship, cruises to the Norwegian fjords are particularly popular, says David Lentz of ULT Cruises. Here too, passenger numbers have increased compared to last year, but are still below pre-pandemic levels.
According to Lentz, the industry has made use of the past years to increase sustainability by investing into ships with electric engines and those running on liquified petroleum gas.
