
The Luxair Group reported a small operating profit of €1.5 million for 2022, it said in its financial report published on Wednesday.
Over 28,000 flights to over a record 90 destinations in 30 countries were operated in 2022, compared to about 15,000 flights in 2021. Luxair Airlines and LuxairTours together carried more than 2 million passengers last year, nearly double compared to 2021.
The most popular destinations are in France, followed closely by Portugal and Italy. A third of Luxair passengers were French, a quarter Luxembourgish and about a fifth Portuguese, followed by other nationalities.
LuxairTours rebounced from the pandemic in 2021, registering +119% in passenger numbers, with another +54% in 2022 - more than 850,000 passengers in total.
Popular destinations remain the Balearic Islands, followed by the Canary Islands and Spanish mainland. Destinations in Tunisia and Turkey also increased in popularity due to travel restrictions in the previous two years. All of these flights together emitted around 275,000 tonnes of CO2.
LuxairCARGO registered a decrease in tonnage in 2022 due to the war, with 995,000 tonnes flown.
LuxairServices, which handles ground handling at the airport, registered 24,125 aircraft turnarounds. It also served around 2.28 million meals to passengers on all flights.
Looking ahead into 2023, the airline has ordered two new Boeing 737-800 aircraft and will construct a new maintenance hangar, which can house three aircraft at a time.
