PM Luc Frieden announced the resignation of Labour and Sports Minister Georges Mischo, with the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) now looking for a successor. Frieden has already notified the Grand Duke of the government reshuffle.

According to Frieden, Mischo had been subjected to “hurtful and unfair” criticism in recent weeks that prevented him from completing his portfolios in a calm and objective manner. After a long conversation, the decision was made that Mischo would submit his resignation. The Prime Minister also noted the decision cannot be solely and exclusively be tied to the planned sports museum project in the “Rout Lëns” district.

Marc Spautz is set to take over as Labour Minister, while Martine Hansen has been named as new Sports Minister. Both still have to officially approved by the National Council of the CSV, though the Prime Minister hopes to finish the reshuffling process by the end of this week so the new ministers can start working on their respective portfolios.

Frieden also noted that with Spautz taking over as Minister, a new faction president will have to be decided on within the CSV ranks.
