Near Kirchberg and SenningerbergLorry tears through crash barriers, A1 motorway partially closed to traffic

RTL Today
The Luxembourg Motoring Association (ACL) reports that the motorway is closed to traffic towards Luxembourg City, while the Trier lanes are now slowly reopening.

Due to the traffic jam, numerous drivers left their vehicles to wander around the motorway while they wait, the ACL warned.

According to the Motorway Traffic Information and Control Centre (CITA), a lorry crashed through the guardrails that separate the lanes between Kirchberg and Senningerberg. The driver is said to have lost control of the vehicle after a tyre blew out, hitting a sign and lamppost before striking the guardrails.

The driver suffered minor injuries as a result. As of 6.30pm, the motorway was still closed in the direction of Luxembourg City to enable the emergency services to remove any potential danger in the form of material damage to the road. One lane had reopened on the other side of the motorway earlier on Tuesday, towards Trier, but traffic was said to be moving slowly.

Motorists are advised to avoid the A1 altogether. Traffic jams had backed up as far as the Stafelter Tunnel on the A7 by Tuesday afternoon.

Alternative routes have been set up on the N1.
