In his statement, Gloden, a member of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV), highlighted the difficulties surrounding the return process for asylum seekers whose requests have been denied. Calling for a harmonised European solution, he highlighted the importance of organising swift returns to the home countries of rejected asylum seekers.

When questioned by a journalist about his stance on advocating a tougher EU asylum policy, Gloden clarified that his emphasis lies on promoting a more “responsible and efficient” approach rather than a stricter stance. On behalf of the Luxembourg government, Gloden also expressed support for the full inclusion of Bulgaria and Romania into the Schengen area.

In addition to discussions on the European asylum and migration pact, the ongoing wars and crises in Ukraine and the Middle East are also key topics during the Justice and Home Affairs Council in Brussels.
