City courtJuvenile offender sentenced for bodily harm

RTL Today
A 17-year-old had to face a judge for assaulting a guardian as well as the person in charge of the Dreiborn youth detention centre.

The teenager will remain at the Schrassig adult prison. On Thursday morning, a judge sentenced the minor to one year in prison, including a six-month probation period linked to a psychological evaluation. The verdict thereby concludes the series of physical assaults that the culprit aimed at his guardian and the person in charge of the Dreiborn facility over a period of five months. The judge moreover awarded 500 euros in compensation money.

The juvenile's attorney, Me Laura May, talked about the possibility of an appeal: "It remains clear that the adult prison is not the most adequate place for a 17-year-old, but I cannot guarantee that we will achieve a final success in this case. However, I appreciate the judge's decision to offer psychological support for my client and the possibility of probation."
