
The UK Government has announced the appointment of Ms Joanne Olivier as His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. She will be succeeding Ms Fleur Thomas, who has been in this role since April 2021. Olivier will be taking up the appointment in April 2025.
Joanne Olivier has experience in various capacities across the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), and in diplomatic roles abroad. Her career includes work in international relations, justice, home affairs, and counter-terrorism, as well as experience in law and consular operations.
While this will her be her first time as the head of a diplomatic mission, Olivier has vast international experiences acting as the Deputy Head of Mediterranean Department, First Secretary of Justice and Home Affairs at the British Embassy of Paris, the FCO’s lead for the Ukraine Team, and as Consul for South Africa and Consular Regional Operations Manager for Southern Africa in Pretoria.
