Jean-Paul Lickes is the new chairman of the Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL) board of directors. The change was announced on Monday morning at the press conference presenting the company's annual report.
Jeannot Waringo is stepping down after 41 years on the board. He had laid a solid foundation, Lickes said, adding that taking over the chairmanship from him was a great responsibility. Lickes also thanked Waringo on behalf of the CFL.
The CFL described 2025 as an excellent year at Monday's press conference. The group posted a record turnover of €1.3 billion and a profit of €35.3 million. The financial side certainly matters, though it is not the only concern, the CFL shared.
Punctuality remains a focal point, CEO Marc Wengler underlined. In 2025, the share of trains running on time slipped slightly to 89.6%, down from 90.8% the year before. The dip was mainly down to strikes in neighbouring countries and to works at Howald, Wengler explained.
The company also pointed to a number of improvements made last year. These included a better connection with the Käldall, a larger train between Luxembourg and Metz, the redevelopment of the stations at Esch-sur-Alzette and Differdange, and a new waiting-room concept rolled out at various stations. A further 466 people were taken on by CFL last year, with the total CFL workforce now standing at more than 5,300 employees.
