LSAPIt is too early to speculate on a lead candidate, says Yves Cruchten

RTL Today
On Tuesday morning, the president of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party sat down for an interview at RTL Radio.

Cruchten was first asked about the recent announcements from LSAP Ministers Romain Schneider and Dan Kersch, who no longer plan on taking on leadership roles after the next elections. The LSAP president explained that he was aware of the decision, but underlined that both politicians are also still committed to fulfilling their duties as ministers.

When it comes to finding an adequate lead candidate for the party’s 2023 campaign, Cruchten was unwilling to speculate, but indicated that a double leadership could be possible. After being elected LSAP president in early 2020, Cruchten made it his priority to change the party’s bylaws so that there will always be a male and a female president. The same change could eventually apply to lead candidates, Cruchten noted.

Cruchten also commented on the great election results of their German counterpart SPD, noting that Olaf Scholz delivered a flawless campaign in comparison to other candidates. Furthermore, social policies are moving up again across all of Europe, the LSAP president explained.

Cruchten concluded the interview by stating that aside from its role as government coalition partners, LSAP is still an independent party working relentlessly on its vision of a better future for the country.
