Four months after fire in KaylInterim report: Gas in kitchen had not been turned off

RTL Today
On Thursday it will be exactly four months since a child lost their life in a devastating house fire in Kayl.

According to information obtained by RTL, an interim report on the incident is now available. This report allegedly indicates that human error was the cause of the fire on 6 December 2022. Specifically, the report is said to suggest that someone neglected to switch off the gas in their kitchen. However, the report does not appear to mention which kitchen this occurred in. The public prosecutor’s office declined to comment on this information upon enquiry by our colleagues from RTL.lu.

The fire on St Nicholas Day claimed the life of a six-year-old boy. For the past three weeks, the affected family has been living in a new flat in Esch-sur-Alzette. In total, six families lived in the old building and had to be relocated. One family is reportedly still looking for a new home.
