Pilot projectIntelligent traffic light system between Mamer and Strassen

RTL Today
A section well known to drivers and particularly dreaded at rush hour is to be improved by an AI traffic light system.

In order to improve traffic flow and enable buses to make better headway, a pilot project involving intelligent traffic lights has been launched at this location.

The test section for this pilot project is located along Route d'Arlon, starting at the Mamer exit and ending at the roundabout in front of the shopping centre in Strassen. The route is just under a kilometre long but includes several junctions that are often problematic for road traffic.

Public transport will benefit from automatic right-of-way and the various traffic lights will adapt to the traffic at any given time.

Until now, traffic was regulated by the traffic lights programmed by the respective municipalities. The bridges and roads authority and their intelligent systems will temporarily take over the control within the framework of the project.

The test phase will begin in the spring of 2021. €2 million will be needed to complete this project.
