A deceased inmate was discovered in their cell at the Schrassig penitentiary centre on Thursday around 3pm, according to a statement from the Prison Administration. Despite repeated efforts, resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, the administration confirmed. Judicial authorities have been notified, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
The statement further noted that several officials and emergency personnel attended the scene, including the Ombudsman in their role as external monitor of places of detention, the Deputy Director General of the Prison Administration, the Director of the Luxembourg Penitentiary Centre, members of the Grand Ducal Police, and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS).
