New Year’s Eve saw police responding to several cases of drink-driving across Luxembourg, with incidents ranging from erratic driving to collisions.
At around 5pm, authorities received reports of a car zigzagging along the A13 towards Esch-sur-Alzette. The caller followed the vehicle and noted it repeatedly crashing into guardrails. Police intercepted the motorist, who was found to be heavily intoxicated. The driver’s licence was revoked, and a temporary driving ban was issued.
Around the same time, a collision between a cyclist and a scooter occurred in Grevenmacher. Both individuals sustained minor injuries, and the cyclist was discovered to be under the influence of alcohol.
At 6.30pm, another report of erratic driving came from Rue de la Fonderie in Luxembourg City. Witnesses observed a vehicle mounting the pavement multiple times. Police identified and stopped the car, which bore visible damage. The driver, who was heavily intoxicated, had their licence revoked and was issued a temporary driving ban.
Later in the night, at approximately 4am in Belair, officers stopped a motorist driving without headlights. A breathalyser test confirmed the driver was intoxicated, resulting in a driving ban.
An hour later, police were called to Rue des Scillas in Howald, where a crashed car was found stationary in the middle of the road. Officers discovered a person asleep at the wheel. After waking the individual, a breathalyser test confirmed they were over the legal alcohol limit. The driver’s licence was revoked.
In a final incident, police responded to a crash in Weidingen, where the responsible driver was also found to be inebriated.
