On day 17 of the war in Ukraine, people took to the streets of Luxembourg City to protest against the violent conflict. Several hundred convened at Place Clairefontaine, including people with Ukrainian origins, some who already fled the country, as well those who just wanted to express their solidarity with the nation.
Prime Minister Xavier Bettel was also present and met with the speakers at the protest, who urged politicians across Europe to show their support for Ukraine. The president of the non-profit organisation LUkraine stressed that help is not only needed on a humanitarian level, but also on a military one.
Protestors have lost hope that Russian president Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate peace. According to LUkraine officials, about 600 refugees have already arrived in Luxembourg, out of which they helped 200 make the journey.
