The Consultative Commission on Human Rights (CCDH) has criticised Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden in an open letter, accusing him of an “unfortunate simplification” of its recommendations.
The CCDH called on the minister to align his approach with its report. In the letter, the commission reminded Gloden that its fifth report on human trafficking had recommended tackling organised crime through increased staffing, a multidisciplinary approach, and enhanced international information exchange.
The CCDH further criticised that debates on begging are often politicised and based on discriminatory stereotypes. The commission argued that current measures are predominantly repressive and lack a human rights foundation.
The CCDH also expressed surprise over remarks made by Minister Gloden suggesting that the commission supports the joint police patrols involving Romanian officers. The commission clarified that it believes the initiative risks increasing stigmatisation.
