The tram is set to arrive in Howald in 2023, but transport minister François Bausch already admitted in 2020 that the interchange would not be completed in time.
A bridge currently being constructed over the railway line needs to be wide enough for buses to drive across, but in order to attain such width, a piece of land requires purchasing on rue des Scillas. Before, the area housed the activities of beverage distributor Munhowen.
According to both spokespersons for the two businessmen, their conflict is not the reason why the State were unable to purchase the land on rue des Scillas. As Flavio Becca and Eric Lux do not agree on the ownership conditions of the Olos Fund, it has been managed for some time by Mr Yann Baden, who would therefore also be responsible to lead the sale, Becca and Lux argue.
When asked about the progress of the discussions with the state, Baden refrained from commenting. The Ministry of Transport was hardly more forthcoming; François Bausch only indicated that the discussions would be constructive and that he were optimistic that a positive outcome could be reached in the coming months.
But as Becca and Lux themselves do not agree who owns which part of the real estate fund, as an expropriation procedure is underway against the land, which would mean that the government dispossesses a person from their property. However these procedures take a long time, as was the case with the Hellange bypass.
But if discussions go as smoothly as indicated, the procedure could sooner or later become obsolete.
