
In Luxembourg, 74% of internet users use online messaging services, and the most popular by far is WhatsApp. According to Statec’s report, published on Thursday, 91% of users in Luxembourg make use of the app.

Facebook holds second place with 65%, followed by Snapchat (20%), Skype (19%), Signal (12%), Viber (10%), Telegram (7%) and Wechat (2%).
Messenger has the most fans among people aged 25-34 (77%), compared to younger users aged 16 to 24, 78% of whom prefer Snapchat. Older users aged 65-74 prefer to contact others using Skype.

Messaging apps are particularly popular among young people aged 26-34, with 85% making use of the services. 65% of 16-24 year olds spend over an hour using messaging services per day. 15% spend between 3 and 5 hours messaging per day, while 6% spend over 5 hours on social networks on a daily basis.
Women are more likely to spend more time using messaging services than men, although the length of usage diminishes with age. 49% of women in Luxembourg spend over an hour messaging per day, compared to 39% of men.
In contrast, 84% of people aged 65-74 voluntarily limit their time online to less than an hour per day.
