On Thursday morning, the Home Expo and National Housing Week were officially launched at Luxexpo in Kirchberg. These events are dedicated to showcasing innovative, creative, and sustainable solutions in the realm of housing — a matter of pressing concern for many individuals.
Ensuring that everyone has a secure place to call home is the primary goal, as highlighted by Minister for Housing Henri Kox. He stressed that these solutions should cater to various needs and preferences, whether it is renting or buying, urban or rural living, accommodating families of different sizes, with or without children, and spanning all age groups.
Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer drew attention to the housing crisis’ magnitude, referencing a stark decline in building permits issued by the capital. In 2021, the municipality issued 1,964 permits, but by 2022, this number had plummeted to only 968, and the trend continued in 2023 with just 693 permits issued as of October.
Morgan Gromy, General Manager of Luxexpo, highlighted the significance of Home Expo and Housing Week as platforms for addressing these critical issues. He previewed some of the event’s highlights, including a presentation by an Austrian architectural firm featuring an “inspiring and affordable” housing project in Vienna. In addition, a “personal shopper” service will be available throughout the four-day event to guide visitors based on the specific housing projects offered by exhibitors.
Home Expo and Housing Week offer an opportunity to connect with 160 experts in various fields, ranging from construction and renovation to furnishing and decoration. These experts will be available for consultations at Luxexpo in Kirchberg until Sunday.
