Energy developmentHigh-voltage grid to be increased from 220 to 380 kilovolt

The planned adaption is supposed to help meet an ever-growing demand.

Creos is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the grid, which guarantees that sufficient amounts of electricity can be spread across the country.

The new "project 380" has however already started creating tensions in some municipalities, like Steinsel and Lorentzweiler.

A 2018 report notes that at the time, the grid had already reached 75% of its capacity, highlighting the necessity of an upgrade and improvement.

Some critics have questioned if the increase might in fact be related to the planned installation of Google's data centre in Bissen.

Currently, electricity is also being imported into the country from Germany at two sites, one in Vianden, the other in Mertert.
