The Luxembourg Guides and Scouts associations, FNEL and LGS, will receive a new Chief Scout in October. After Grand Duke Jean passed away in April this year, the top post for the "Scouting in Luxembourg" movement has been empty.

On Friday 4 October, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume will follow in his grandfather's footsteps and accept the position of Chief Scout before the members of both scouting federations. The former Grand Duke, then Prince Jean, accepted the honour shortly after World War Two ended, and was Chief Scout of the Luxembourg associations for almost 75 years until his death in April.

The Scouts and Guides are some of the largest youth movements in the country, numbering over 8,000 members across 90 groups. The Hereditary Grand Duke has been a member of the World Scout Foundation, which is based in Geneva and supports the international scout movement, for the last two years.

The current honorary president of the World Scout Foundation, King of Sweden Carl Gustav, may attend the ceremony on 4 October. The World Scout Foundation committee, comprised of 30 members, will also be present in the Grand Duchy.

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume was an active scout himself, joining at the age of 8 and later participating in a cooperation project in Nepal. He has said he sees the value of scouting as a way of promoting a peaceful and harmonious society.
