The drought for one caused issues in the east of Luxembourg whereas the west of the country suffered as a result of hailstone damage. Nevertheless, the 2018/2019 harvest has been deemed satisfying. Winter grains were better than the summer ones, but the Minister of Agriculture Romain Schneider highlighted that there were significant disparities between harvests in different regions.
Harvests in western Luxembourg were above all impacted by hailstones, which had detrimental consequences on different crops. The water deficit also had an impact on crops in eastern Luxembourg, with rapeseed suffering the most as a result of the high temperatures.
The minister highlighted that the government continues to conduct research on alternatives designed to adapt Luxembourg's agriculture to new meteorological consequences, especially given the frequency of extreme weather as a result of climate change.
