Young members of both the DP and Green parties joined for a press briefing on Friday morning, in which they welcomed the measures announced, but also requested improvements.
Fabricio Costa of the Greens said the measures did not really go far enough and had not been thought through. “The housing crisis is a reality, we are running out of time,” he added.
The children’s clause - an allowance for landowners with children under 25 - would deplete the tax for the mobilisation of vacant land, Costa said. In addition, property tax reform would favour owners of multiple properties over single homeowners.
The young democrats (JDL) also welcomed the fiscal measures, but called upon the Minister of the Interior, Taina Bofferding, for improvements, such as a considerable increase in the tax on vacant land, as the beneficial value of the land would outweigh the tax.
In contrast to the young Greens, who wished to withdraw the children’s clause from this tax, the JDL proposed increasing the age limit to 30 years from 25.
