Grand Duke Henri welcomed the five diplomats on Wednesday to officially accredit them. The following five individuals have thus been appointed to their ambassador posts:
- Caroline Jane Miller, Australia
- Hernan Enrique Ponce Aray, Ecuador
- Adnan Mohd. Ja’afar, Brunei
- Badr Amned Mohamed Abdelatty, Egypt
- Franco Coppola, Holy See
Coppola will act as the permanent representative of the Pope in Luxembourg’s archdiocese. He will be relocated to Brussels after having served the Vatican in the same role in Mexico. His position equals that of an ambassador, which is why he was accredited jointly with the rest of the diplomats.
Coppola will replace Augustine Kasuja from Uganda. During his time in Mexico, Coppola strongly advocated against organised crime. Before his role in Central America, the 65-year-old Italian was active in Africa, including Burundi and Chad.
