
The Grand Duke and Foreign Affairs Minister used the opportunity to pay a visit to the Japanese firm Fanuc (Fuji Automatic Numerical Control), located at the bottom of Mount Fuji.
Fanuc's European headquarters have been stationed in Echternach since 2012, and the factory belongs to one of the largest constructors of industrial robots. Fanuc employs 1,300 people across Europe, and 230 in Luxembourg.
A meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, where the two countries' bilateral relationship was highlighted was also on the agenda, and their trip ended with a visit to the "Mori Silk Factory".
In 2017, Japan became Luxembourg's largest Asian trading partner in terms of merchandise, a sector which has continues to expand, already reaching around 500 million Euros in 2018. The volumes traded between our countries amount to 1.7 billion Euros in 2018, compared with 1.08 billion Euros in 2016.
