The Luxembourg government collected nearly €1 billion in CO2 tax and energy excise tax revenue in 2024, Environment Minister Serge Wilmes revealed in response to a recent parliamentary enquiry from Democratic Party MP Luc Emering.
CO2 tax revenue has steadily increased in recent years, reaching €258 million in 2024. Meanwhile, energy excise tax revenue, which dropped significantly in 2022 due to the first ‘Solidarity Pact’, has since stabilised.
Wilmes stated that the revenue from these taxes is equally allocated between climate protection measures and social compensation initiatives.
