On Thursday, the Minister for Higher Education and Research, Stéphanie Obertin, signed an agreement between the government and the University of Luxembourg, alongside public research centres LIST (Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology), LIH (Luxembourg Institute of Health), and LISER (Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research), as well as FNR (Luxembourg National Research Fund). The convention will cover the next three years, until 2029, and guarantees nearly €2bn of funding.
The agreement was negotiated to ensure stronger coherence between the different stakeholders, and to guarantee harmonised definitions of their goals and indicators. As with previous conventions covering a multi-year period, the new agreement links public investments in higher education, research and innovation with the expected results on a scientific, economic, and social level, with renewed focus on impact.
In total the agreement covers €1,987.2bn for the period of 2026-2029.
