Luxembourg and German authorities have established a new joint procedure for conducting temporary Schengen border controls along the A8 motorway, aiming to minimise traffic disruptions while maintaining security measures.

Following negotiations between Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden and German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, police forces from both countries will implement a coordinated system starting 1 August 2025.

Under this agreement, German officers may identify vehicles of interest while they remain in Luxembourg territory, with selected vehicles being diverted to the Moseltal car park inspection point in Germany. This change will eliminate the current single-lane 20 km/h speed restriction that previously caused traffic delays.

Authorities emphasise the protocol applies exclusively to A8 motorway police checks and will undergo continuous operational evaluation.
