Major successGeoportail.lu's latest aerial photographs generate over 20,000 clicks
Two weeks ago, Geoportail.lu launched the so-called 'ortophoto', a tool that allows users to compare aerial photographs of Luxembourg from 1967 with those from 2022.
The new Geoportail tool has apparently sparked the curiosity of many people, with significant traffic reported on the website. For example, users seemed interested in knowing what the country looked like when the Kirchberg district was still a row of meadows or when there were practically no motorways to be found.
In a Luxembourgish report by RTL Magazin, our colleagues explore how an archive find of old aerial photos at the National Roads Administration turned into this interactive and publicly-accessible project. The team is already working on another ‘ortophoto’ with even older photographic fragments.
