RTL sources have revealed that buyers who reserved and paid for an apartment in the planned complex have recently received letters offering them refunds.
During construction work at the Echternach building site, important archaeological discoveries were made in the ground which would have served as the building's foundations.
The site is expected to placed under protection as a monument, with the Ministry of Culture's decision is still pending. This would naturally have negative consequences for the building project.
The "Petite Marquise" site was purchased by the municipality of Echternach in 2017 for a sum of around 3 million euros. The marketplace site, formerly a hotel-restaurant which has stood empty since the 1990s, was due to be converted into homes and shops in the centre of the town.
