In Mertzig, three hunting rifles along with ammunition, accessories, and a drone were stolen from a car on the night from 4 September to 5 September. Initial findings suggest that several individuals broke into the locked vehicle, which had a window slightly open. The stolen firearms were recovered by police on 7 September, in a park on Rue de l’École in Mertzig, with the investigation still ongoing.
On Monday, at around 7.45pm, police received a report of another theft from a vehicle on Rue d’Audun in Esch-sur-Alzette. The perpetrator is believed to have gained access through a rear side window, stealing items including sunglasses, perfume, cash, and cutlery.
A further incident occurred in the Gare district of Luxembourg City during the night leading up to Tuesday, when several items were stolen from a van that had been parked briefly. A man entered the van and left with several jackets and some cash. Shortly after, police apprehended a suspect carrying two of the stolen jackets, part of the stolen cash, as well as additional keys and service badges.
Police are reminding the public not to leave vehicles unlocked or valuables inside, and advise consulting the police website for further information on preventing car break-ins.
Police have opened investigations in all of these cases.
Police also responded to a theft at a shop in the Gare district on Monday. At around 12.15pm on Rue du Fort Neipperg, two men were observed placing various goods into their jacket pockets before attempting to leave the shop without paying. The suspects were stopped and the goods were returned. During a search, officers found a cloth bag containing 334 cannabis seeds on one of the men, which was confiscated on the orders of the public prosecutor.
On the same day, at around 6.45pm, police were called to Rue du Village in Gonderange after witnesses reported seeing two suspicious individuals in front gardens, apparently heading towards a property. When officers arrived, they encountered the two suspects leaving a garden. Upon seeing the police, the suspects fled over a fence towards the N11 and escaped into nearby woodland.
Despite a search, police were unable to apprehend the suspects. Inside the house, officers found that several drawers and cabinets had been rifled through. An investigation has also been opened in this case.
