Minister for Tourism Lex Delles confirmed the delay in a response to a parliamentary question by déi Lénk MP, Myriam Cecchetti.
The campaign for free drinking water was first announced in 2019. Delles said it had not been cancelled, but delayed, particularly due to delayed production of personalised glass bottles, which had been affected by the pandemic.
Delles offered more details on the campaign next year, which will function on a voluntary basis. He added it was impossible to predict how many establishments would participate. The goal is not necessarily to ensure free water in all establishments, but instead to leave it up to customers and restaurateurs.
The government also does not want to prescribe a price to restaurateurs for the carafe with tap water.
