The initiative aims to raise awareness about how to act in aquatic emergencies and how to prevent accidents. As part of the programme, basic lifesaving skills are demonstrated and practised directly at the swimming pool in Oberkorn.
Rescuing someone from the water is far from easy – not for adults, and certainly not for children. It requires knowing a few key gestures and techniques in advance. Emergencies can arise at any moment, regardless of a person’s age or swimming ability.
One afternoon session saw four young participants being taught how to perform basic first aid and how to properly assist someone who is drowning. And with school holidays about to begin, it is an ideal time to pick up potentially life-saving knowledge.
Three of the four children taking part explained with enthusiasm that they were learning how to save lives, with one particularly excited about the exercise of pulling a person from the water.
With temperatures rising and holidays just days away, the timing could not be better to focus on water safety.
