The Left and La France InsoumiseFranco-Luxembourg alliance advocates against motorway expansion between both countries

RTL Today
A new alliance between members of parliament from Luxembourg and France has formed to oppose the motorway expansion between both countries, alleging "severe consequences" for people and environment.

“We, members of parliament from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the French Republic, are taking the initiative today of founding a Franco-Luxembourg front against the development of motorway projects on both sides of our common border.”

In a joint press release (FR), MPs Nathalie Oberweis and Myriam Cecchetti from the Left and Martine Etienne and Charlotte Leduc from La France Insoumise argue that expanding the motorway between Luxembourg and France is not going to resolve issues of oversaturation. Furthermore, they make a case that the construction work has severe implications for both people and environment.

According to the four politicians, it is important to find alternative solutions for mobility between the two countries: “The A31bis is a common fight for us. This is why we wish to lead this fight together, which will not be reduced to simple opposition. ... We therefore make ourselves available to collectives, associations, and trade unions to communicate to our governments all alternative projects for ecologically sustainable and liveable transportation for users on our territory.”
