A new sustainable and eco-responsible district will be built in the south-west of Esch-sur-Alzette.
The 11-hectare project includes flats, houses and infrastructure such as a primary school and shops. The area is intended to accommodate more than 1,400 homes for 3,000 inhabitants. The former industrial wasteland will also be CO2 neutral, with 700 trees previewed.
Five infrastructures have been preserved as witnesses of the past. These are the blower hall, the storehouse, the portico, the turbine hall and the signal box. These buildings represent the industrial architecture of the early 20th century, the oldest of which dates from 1901. All these buildings, abandoned since 1977, will find a function in the future complex. They will even serve as pivots for the architects since the construction of the new ‘Rout Lëns’ district will be built around them.
The first homes are scheduled to be launched in 2025.
