Drugs, vaccines, or medical treatments are supposed to be available for use as soon as possible.
The research community in Luxembourg has come together to use its shared resources to try and find answers to open questions in the best way possible. In the following days, a study is expected to find out to what extend the virus has spread among the population.
Meanwhile, new forms of treatment, as for instance using blood plasma from recovered Covid-19 patients, are being pushed abroad. While first results from South Korea are positive, there is still a lack of large-scale clinical studies. According to the Medical Director of the Robert Schuman hospitals, Claude Braun, there are a lot of unknown factors when it comes to producing blood plasma for Covid-19 patients in Luxembourg, even though it would technically be possible. However, he also confirmed that such a plan was indeed being worked on at the moment.
The discussion surrounding masks, and whether citizens should wear them or not has also reached Luxembourg. A study published by Nature showed that even ordinary surgical masks could slow the spread of the virus. Some European virologists also point out that masks made out of cloth, or even a scarf could have an impact. Luxembourgish doctor Marc Diederich, who is currently in South Korea, also stated in an RTL interview that masks were a protection for others and oneself.
