Three weeks after the municipal elections, the first set of mayors and alderpersons have been sworn in at the Ministry for Home Affairs on Monday.

The following towns officially have a new mayor as of Monday: Beckerich, Dippach, Dudelange, Leudelange, Lintgen, Mamer, Manternach, Mondorf-les-Bains, Nomern, Reckange-sur-Mess, Reisdorf, and Wormeldange.

Minister for Home Affairs Taina Bofferding led the ceremony, which saw the election winners take their oath of office, sign the officials documents, and pose for a picture with the Minister. It was the first time that people no longer swore on the Grand Duke, but on the constitution.

Leudelange Mayor Lou Linster commented: “We are happy to have arrived at the finish line, we worked towards it for a long time. We are happy to have gained voters’ trust and now we are motivated to get started.”

In Lintgen, Louis Pinto will take over as the new mayor after incumbent Henri Wurth has entered political retirement. Nevertheless, Mayor Pinto stressed the importance of striking a balance between continuity and innovation: “This makes it more fun, because we have a good team. We have ongoing projects that we will finish and also new projects that we will launch for the future.”

Another set of eleven municipalities will have their elected officials sworn in on Tuesday. The law stipulates that all towns have to conclude this procedure by September. Councillors, however, take their oath of office in their respective municipalities.
