Contrary to claims on social media, the car that caused the major fire in Glacis on Sunday evening was neither an electric car nor a hybrid vehicle. After an initial report by the Tageblatt, RTL was able to confirm the information from the CGDIS fire brigade.

The car from which the flames originated was a model with an internal combustion engine. The flames then spread to three other cars, including an electric car. A total of six cars were damaged.

According to CGDIS and contrary to popular belief, fires occur less frequently in electric cars than in vehicles with combustion engines. This is because they are generally newer.

In 2022, the Luxembourg fire brigade responded to 122 vehicle fires. These incidents ranged from simple smoke development to the complete destruction of the cars involved.
