Minister of Health Paulette Lenert recently provided insight into the current vaccination figures in response to a parliamentary enquiry from MP Jeff Engelen from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR).
In Luxembourg, 63% of people above the age of 80 decided to get a second booster shot of a coronavirus vaccine. For people younger than 60, the rate is less than 10%. A far greater number of people thus opted against the fourth vaccine dose than the Ministry of Health recommended.
16,000 people above the age of 80 got the jab, which corresponds to a vaccination rate of 63% in that age group. 21,000 people aged 70-80 received a second booster shot, which is only about half the number of people authorities wanted. 25,000 people aged 60-70 have been vaccinated again, a rate of 40%.
Minister Lenert emphasised that a fourth dose is strongly recommended for everyone above the age of 60, vulnerable people older than 12, pregnant women, and healthcare workers. The Superior Council for Infectious Diseases also published a recommendation at the beginning of March to advise people with immune deficiciencies to get a fourth jab of an Omicron-adjusted vaccine.
