RTL Today
Luxembourg-born Father Henri Gloden, known in El Salvador as Padre Enrique, has passed away after decades of devoted missionary and humanitarian work in the Central American country.

Born in Mondorf-les-Bains in 1939 and raised in Mertert, Father Henri Gloden – known as Padre Enrique in El Salvador – passed away overnight from Friday to Saturday, after devoting much of his life to the Central American country.

After completing his theological studies in Leuven, he first travelled to El Salvador in 1969, where he began working in a poor neighbourhood of Santa Ana.

Over the years, he served as spiritual director of the seminary in the capital and later helped establish a home for street children in Santa Ana, a project he worked on from 1992 to 1998.

To support his humanitarian mission, the Luxembourg-El Salvador Foundation was created in 2003.
